University student and World Championship Swimmer and Olympic Hopeful
Anni Alitalo is determined to stay in the fast lane – in her swimming career and in her studies. Finding the time to do both - and excel - was a major challenge. Until she joined the Athlete Career Programme. Anni found the advice and guidance she needed to successfully combine training, competitions, university AND a part-time job. Her next career goal is to get her Bachelor ́s degrees in two faculties at the University of Helsinki – Law and Politics. Her ambition is to also achieve a Master's Degree in Legal Studies and pursue a career in the field of Law.
Head Coach, Swimming Team Cetus
"Anni is very motivated and ambitious . She always has had clear goals when it comes to swimming. The biggest target is for sure that she wanted to become a World Class backstroker. In Finland it is not easy to combine professional athletics, school and work. Last season Anni handled the problem incredibly well: she made three National Records, swam in semifinals at the European Championships and World Championships. All these achievements were made while working part-time and studying with the normal speed. Flexibility like that, isn't common among athletes, but very many successful athletes can combine all those three dimensions well, like Anni does."
