Jennifer Stiefel

Water Polo

Germany

Jennifer Stiefel plays water polo for the German national team, and has competed in two European Championships. She is currently on a twelve-week work assignment at Adecco’s Esslingen branch under the Adecco Athlete Career Programme (ACP).

Jennifer’s talent for sports runs in the family. She was born into a genuine water polo dynasty in Esslingen am Neckar: her father Jürgen was a long-standing player on the national team, a two-time participant in the Olympic Games and European Champion in 1981. Her sister Sandra’s team Blau-Weiß Bochum won the German championship and cup in 2010.

Jennifer grew up on the Pacific coast in California, where she played for the local high school’s water polo team. From there, she made the leap to the German Swimming Federation’s junior national team, and was awarded a scholarship for the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles and its team, the Trojans.

At this year’s European Championship in Belgrade Jennifer helped the German A team reach eighth place, as in 2012.

In the wake of this achievement, her focus is now on completing her master’s degree in psychology. She is currently performing the practical job experience she needs to this end at Adecco’s Esslingen branch. As sporting activities left her with very little time to search for a suitable work placement, she is very grateful for the support of the Athlete Career Programme:

“The ACP in cooperation with Adecco was a real boon. My careers advisor at the Olympic Centre, Herbert Wursthorn, got in touch with Adecco, and a few days later I had an interview with Pasquale De Martino, the branch manager here in Esslingen. He provided me with a learning experience on the job which at the same time let’s me successfully pursue my sports career in a way that suits my needs.”

In the coming weeks, Jennifer will also be contributing valuable swimming kilometres to Adecco’s global Win4Youth programme. “It’s great that through my training, I can support a good cause at the same time”, she says.

Pasquale De Martino

Branch Manager Adecco Germany

“It’s the first time that the branch in Esslingen has hired anyone through the Athlete Career Programme. Jennifer Stiefel is a real asset to our team. She is highly motivated and determined, qualities which are in great demand on the labour market.”
