Fiona McCann Marketing Professional Water Polo United Kingdom Having competed in the London 2012 Olympic Games, Great Britain water polo player Fiona McCann has the motivation and ambition to reach the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Through her English Institute of Sport (EIS) Lifestyle Advisor and the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust, Fiona was introduced and encouraged to participate in the ACP, which has helped ensure that her sporting focus is not compromised by worrying over her future career plans. Through the ACP, Fiona has gained experience in the professional world . After registering with the Adecco Manchester branch in March 2013, the Adecco team managed to arrange a couple of interviews for part time permanent positions to suit her training schedule. From these interviews Fiona secured a job as a Marketing assistant with an IT company within weeks of registration. She was thrilled as this was the kind of work she wanted to get into. " I really felt Adecco had my best interests at heart. My contact managed to find me the perfect job to fit in with training for the 2016 Olympics and it also contributes towards my future career aspirations as well as my bank balance! When I retire from sport I know that I will be in a better position to decide on my next goal in life." Fiona, who has a master's degree in marketing communications, is thinking about a future career in marketing, advertising or PR, possibly with a sports dimension. Expanding upon how the ACP is helping her, Fiona adds, "The ACP communicates and provides examples on the value athletes can bring into the workplace. As a result companies know they will be getting highly productive employees with transferrable skills from the world of sport including leadership and teamwork, communication, working under pressure, organisational talent, time management and more. Participating in the ACP is helping me prepare for the future with confidence."
